Edward Mathews
1943-2021
Edward Mathews ( aka Junior or Fast Eddie) of Amherst, NY Was born on October 8, 1943 to the union of Edward Mathews Sr. And Eunice William-Mathews in Palatka, Florida who predeceased him in death.
Edward died Tuesday, August 10, 2021 after a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Orange Mathews, , his daughter Lachelle Granholm ( John) of Suwanee, GA, and his sons, Paul of Jacksonville, FL , Phillip of Brighton, Colorado, Peter (Manola) of New York, New York and Davin ( Crystal) of Tonawanda, New York. As well as, one sister Venie Colleton of Jacksonville, Florida. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, "adopted" son Rudy ( Melissa), and a host of loving family and friends, including many spiritual children.
Edward was raised in Jacksonville, FL, and moved to Buffalo in 1958. Edward attended East High School in Buffalo NY. He also attended Erie Community College, completing a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. His favorite hobby was cooking and he enjoyed entertaining friends in his home. He is famous for his Texas hot dog sauce, cheesecake, and Chinese cuisine. He was a Grillmaster, HIS "secret ingredient" barbecue sauce was voted THE BEST ( of course, some will debate that, Leon!!! ) Eddie loved watching cooking shows, gardening, enjoyed nature, spending time at lakefront parks and Erie Basin Marina with his lovely wife Barbara "Baby", shopping, music, drawing ( yes! He was an artist), playing cards and watching sports with family and friends.
Most of all, Edward was known as a spiritual man. He dedicated his life to Jehovah and was baptized of August 29. 1964. Ed was an avid student of the Bible. Family and friends often called him when they faced challenges, knowing that Eddie would research that issue and share the Bible's advice with them. He had the privilege of serving as an elder for decades with the East Congregation. Ed enjoyed other privileges in pre-convention work, working with the RBC ( now LDC), Metropolitan Cart Witnessing, and he loved serving on the Patient Visitation Group. Dear to his heart was the beautiful privilege Ed had of Regular Pioneering with Barbara for several years. Together they attended the August 2017 Pioneer Ministry School and they were actually learning Nepali with plans to move to the Nepali speaking group before illness made it difficult to continue in their Pioneer Service .
Eddie was very much loved and will be greatly missed by all, especially by his Creator, Jehovah, and for that reason, Eddie's absence will be temporary and brief because God promises at Job 14:15 " You will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands. " May our hearts draw comfort as we wait for Edward to answer that call.
We love you very much and look forward to welcoming you back in the new world.
